If you are completely in the dark about dogging, or just not sure, let me explain a little.

Dogging is the name given to a relatively new sex craze that has originated in Britain but is spreading worldwide.

It is a sexual phenomenon that brings together many different sex activities, including exhibtionism, voyeurism, public sex, partner swapping, group sex and sex with strangers. It can be any or all of those things, and generally takes place in hidden areas outdoors in, on or around cars and other vehicles.

So typically, it may be that a pre-arranged meeting occurs in a secluded car park which the participants have driven to, and sexual acts occur which could involve just one couple being watched by the others present, or all the doggers becoming involved in the sexual activity in some way.

The 'doggers' involved may or may not know each other and will typically have arranged the meet by mobile phone text message or via internet forums or message boards, or may even have just waited at the location on the off chance that a meeting will take place.

Who goes dogging?

A dogger can be anyone who is open minded about sex, so there is often a cross-over between the dogging community and the swinging community. Dogging can be thought of as a form of swinging as it can involve having sex with multiple partners. All kinds of people are known to have been dogging but you may not hear about the activity as by its nature it has to be kept relatively secret.

Regular doggers are careful not to reveal popular dogging locations to the wider public in order for these locations not to attract the attention of the authorities, the police, or those who may disapprove of open minded sexual activity and would want to disrupt or somehow prevent meetings from occurring.

When and where does dogging take place?

Dogging takes place in any public outdoors area which can be reached by car and is relatively secluded in order that the participants can engage in their dogging action without being seen by other members of the public.

So it would happen in public car parks away from built up areas, picnic spots and beauty spots in the countryside, laybys that are away from the road and probably separated by a hedge. It has also been known to happen in public parks and even multi story car parks.

However, as mentioned above, the actual locations are kept secret and as soon as a good dogging location becomes widely known, it is no longer used due to the fear of regular doggers being caught. So unless you are serious about going dogging yourself, and familiarise yourself with the rules and conventions associated with the activity and the methods used to arrange dogging meets, you are most likely to find yourself wasting a lot of time sitting in your car at some lonely car park somewhere hoping that something will eventually happen which never will!

Dogging is usually done at night, but it doesn't have to be. Of course it is more likely to happen during summer months when having sex outdoors is an attractive propositon for anyone. But that is not to say that it doesn't happen at other times since, after all, what better way to keep warm is there than fucking as many people as possible?

As I said, dogging originated in Britain but is spreading across the world now, especially in the southern parts of Europe and across America. Finally an export the British can be proud of!

Why is it called Dogging?

This depends on who you ask.

Some say that the name is derived from the excuse that some men may use in order to get out to a meeting - that of 'taking the dog for a walk'.

Another explanation comes from the idea that dogging originally arose from couples that had sex in their cars being 'dogged' by voyeurs trying to watch them at popular lover's spots, which gave rise to the exhibitionist / voyeur aspect of the dogging phenomenon.

Is Dogging illegal?

Contrary to popular belief, and to what the tabloid papers would have you believe, there is no law in the UK specifically against dogging or the activities associated with dogging. The law does not concern itself with whatever sexual activity two or more consenting adults might get up to in or on a car or in some other public place.

The only thing the law is concerned with is whether that activity intended to cause 'alarm or distress' to another person. So if the sex takes place somewhere where the participants could reasonably expect to be discovered by another member of the public, and it could be construed that participants meant to be discovered in order to cause alarm or distress, that would be illegal. But if it happens somewhere where you would not expect to be found and you were trying not to be seen, you are ok.

Specifically, the Sexual Offenses Act 2003 is the one that relates to dogging. When this came into force, a number of archaic laws relating to sexual activity were swept away, and the rights of homosexuals were brought into line with those of heterosexuals. There is nothing in the act which outlaws dogging in itself.

The relevant parts of the act are part 66 (exposure), 67 (voyeurism), and possibly 71 (sexual activity in a public lavatory, affectionately known in the gay community as 'cottaging').

Part 66 of the Sexual Offenses Act 2003 reads:

(1) A person commits an offence if—
(a) he intentionally exposes his genitals, and
(b) he intends that someone will see them and be caused alarm or distress.
(2) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable—
(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or both;
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years

Part 67 reads:

(1) A person commits an offence if—
(a) for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, he observes another person doing a private act, and
(b) he knows that the other person does not consent to being observed for his sexual gratification.
(2) A person commits an offence if—
(a) he operates equipment with the intention of enabling another person to observe, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, a third person (B) doing a private act, and
(b) he knows that B does not consent to his operating equipment with that intention.
(3) A person commits an offence if—
(a) he records another person (B) doing a private act,
(b) he does so with the intention that he or a third person will, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, look at an image of B doing the act, and
(c) he knows that B does not consent to his recording the act with that intention.
(4) A person commits an offence if he instals equipment, or constructs or adapts a structure or part of a structure, with the intention of enabling himself or another person to commit an offence under subsection (1).
(5) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable—
(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or both;
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.

And part 71 reads:

(1) A person commits an offence if—
(a) he is in a lavatory to which the public or a section of the public has or is permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise,
(b) he intentionally engages in an activity, and,
(c) the activity is sexual.
(2) For the purposes of this section, an activity is sexual if a reasonable person would, in all the circumstances but regardless of any person’s purpose, consider it to be sexual.
(3) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or both.

So obviously exposing yourself in a public place in order to provoke alarm or outrage will get you arrested. And probably watching or trying to film two people having sex in a car without their consent would get you in trouble too. But dogging is not about that. Dogging is all about consenting adults having fun in the open without trying to be seen by or cause distress to others.

However, the police don't always see it that way. In some areas of the country the police are happy to turn a blind eye to dogging activities and are more concerned with preventing any criminal activity befalling the doggers, such as posessions being stolen from cars while backs are turned. But in other areas police may not be so cooperative and attracting the attention of the boys in blue is generally to be avoided. Hence, locations must be kept known only to those who are genuinely into the dogging scene.

Want to go Dogging?

If you want to go dogging yourself, first you'll need to learn what you can expect.

If you successfully find yourself at a dogging meet for the first time, the best thing to do is simply watch and see what happens.

There are special rules and signals that doggers use and you will need to familiarise yourself with these. First off, just learn some common sense rules:

Be discreet. Don't attract unwanted attention to the area, the other doggers will not appreciate this and may move on.

Be patient. To get involved in dogging requires an amount of trust and this takes time.

Be clean. You might think dogging is dirty but it doesn't mean you can be dirty. If you are going to be touching another person sexually you need to make sure your hands and whatever else you will use is clean. Also, make sure you clean up after yourself - leaving tissues and used condoms lying around for the general public to find the next morning will soon get the location closed down by authorities.

Be respectful. Especially to the women. Very few, if any, female doggers go dogging alone. There will be a boyfriend or husband nearby, and you are not going to get near her if you are not polite and respectful to both of them.

Use a condom. If you finally get lucky enough to get your cock inside a girl at a dogging meet, then unless you already know her very well you will need to use protection. Yes we all hate condoms but you don't know where she's been and she doesn't know where you've been. Sex with a condom is better than no sex at all and no sex at all is what you'll be getting if you pick up something nasty.

How to find a Dogging Meet

That deals with some basic rules of dogging (which let's face it, pretty much apply to any form of group sex or swinging). So how do you get to find a dogging meet? You'll need to check out the dogging forums of which there are many.

However, what you may find is that those forums that are free to use are only used by those with no real idea of dogging just hoping to get some information on where to go, and those who actually know where to go tend to avoid these sites. That's because, obviously if you know a good dogging location where there is some action, you do not want to be posting it on a free forum where the whole world (including possibly the police or reporters) get to know of its whereabouts.

So you may find you need to join a private, i.e. paid forum to really get into the scene.

Dogging signals

So you've found your way to a dogging location, you've waited patiently, and a couple turn up in a car. What now?

You wait. When the couple want to be watched, the usual signal is a flash of the interior light. They may also flash headlights, although this can mean different things in different dogging communities. So now you may approach the car and start to watch what they do. That may be all that you get, or they may choose to interact more.

They may wind down the car window part of the way to allow you to talk to them. If they wind it down fully it may mean they want you to touch - but don't assume that it does mean that.

If they open the car door this may be an invite to join in with sexual activity. If this happens, always be led by what the female wants. Never assume that you can do what you want or try to take control of her, as all that will happen is the doors will close again and they'll drive off. Remember, they may be inexperienced doggers too and so may be nervous and thinking of their own safety above all.

Of course if you are very lucky you may get involved in a full on sexual orgy right there by the car, if the girl is up for it. It does happen, you just have to be in the right place at the right time!
